STATE OF FLORIDA AND DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION PRESENTS NORTH LIGHT MARINA WITH CLEAN MARINA DESIGNATION

North Light Earns Rare Distinction as a Certified Clean Marina

NICEVILLE, Fla. (October 8, 2010)—North Light Marina has officially been certified as a Clean Marina by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. To earn this designation, North Light implemented environmentally sound measures, designed to address critical environmental issues including sensitive habitat, waste management, storm-water runoff, spill prevention and emergency preparedness.

Participation in the Florida Clean Marina program is voluntary, but participants must adhere to strict guidelines. North Light’s eco-friendly practices exceeded the required designation standards and include a property-wide recycling program, upland placement of the fish cleaning station to prevent waste and residue from entering the water, and a high-tech wastewater filtration and water reclamation system in the boat washing area.

“We are extremely proud to be recognized by the State of Florida and the Department of Environmental Protection as a Clean Marina,” said Joe Winkeler, North Light Marina developer and owner. “From the beginning, our vision was to build a modern marina facility that set a higher standard for design and engineering. North Light Marina understands the importance of protecting our natural resources, especially in the wake of the Gulf Coast oil disaster.”

Scott Burt of Coastal Marina Management has more than 36 years of professional experience in the marina business and served on the steering committee with the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection to create the widely recognized and acclaimed, certified Clean Marina program. Burt assisted in the design of North Marina, provided expertise to the design and oversaw the construction and outlined operational practices which enabled the club to earn this prestigious recognition.

The private Clean Marina designation ceremony will be held on Friday, October 22, 2010, at North Light Marina. The Marina will be presented with a Clean Marina plaque and flag in recognition of their commitment toward protecting and preserving valued eco-systems. Public officials, including members of the Department of Environmental Protection, will be in attendance.
